NASA is a hip hop group which defies all the odds of rap. Drawing inspiration from DOOM and Wu-Tang, this collective of kids formed the group to show their proven love of hip-hop; to rhyme together and share their unique styles. Established in the DMV, and formed in the early months of summer 2012, friends BigNick PearlCity, Fonlon, JayHaze, Opo-Cultra (Grey-Sky) and TEK.LUN (Varth Dader). Upon meeting, they quickly got acquainted with one another and wasted no time with creating their first song together entitled “Fred the Fish”. NASA (first as New Age Smoking Association, then dropped completely as just NASA or NASA8 in some instances) then decided to build from there creating their first LP entitled “The New Age Smoking Association”. Later on throughout the summer, members such as Jiro, Mercer (or Rad-Lad) and Vigo the Pharaoh joined as well. Immediately after the completion of the tape, NASA then performed their first show at the Baltimore Sound Stage. Dropping the tape the night before the show, everyone then decided to work on their own solo projects as Nick, being the main member with the microphone, left for Full Sail, thus leaving everyone to work on their own solo projects. From there everyone perfected their craft, tightened up their roles in the group as well as shaping NASA into what it is today – NASA8.
